A highly rated, versatile defender, Mike Williams has spent most of his first team career as a left back, although he is equally comfortable in the centre of defence. Williams impressed with a series of strong performances in the doomed 2007-8 season, forming a defensive unit with Phil Bolland and Steve Evans which looked like it might just haul Wrexham out of trouble. Indeed, it was when Williams was replaced by Richard Hope that the goals began to pour in again and hope was extinguished!
